The Mount Panorama Circuit Boardwalk in Bathurst will open soon
The brand new Mount Panorama Circuit Boardwalk is a 1.7km walkway located inside the Mount Panorama race track — stretching from Griffins Bend to Forrest Elbow near the Bathurst Light Car Club.
The project is nearing completion and will most likely be open in time for the Bathurst 1000 in October 2020.
At Brook’s Skyline, the boardwalk will have two large viewing platforms that will allow people to admire the sweeping view of the Bathurst region.
The boardwalk is expected to make the walk around the track a lot safer for people — no longer will people have to walk along the road across the top of Mount Panorama.
The walk alongside The Esses is surprisingly very very step — In fact, it’s the steepest walkway that I have ever seen.
Still to be added to the boardwalk are plaques that will tell the motor racing history of Mount Panorama and the story of Wahluu. Peter Brock fans will enjoy the small tribute that is expected to be placed along the boardwalk.
The Bathurst Local Aboriginal Lands Council and Bathurst Wiradyuri Elders have been involved in the construction of the boardwalk.
The project cost $2 million with funding supplied by the local council and state government. Once the walk is completed, it will be a must-visit spot for visitors to Bathurst.
Bathurst Regional Council statement issued on August 21st 2019: “Mount Panorama is used regularly by walkers and families throughout the year; once completed they will be able to walk around safely. The boardwalk will be approximately 1.7km and located inside of the track from Griffins Bend to Forrest Elbow near the Bathurst Light Car Club. In addition, there will be two viewing areas at the top with seats for people to have a break and take in the magnificent views from the Mount. The project is being joint funded by Council and State Government and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Webber Concrete Construction Pty Limited will be undertaking the works.”
“Work is continuing on a new pedestrian boardwalk at Mount Panorama that will improve pedestrian safety. The construction of the bulk of the path for section one of the walkway is complete including the addition of a new opening in the safety barrier at the start of the walkway. Finishing works in this area to commence shortly. Works have commenced on elevated walkway with installation up to platform 1 90% complete. Manufacturing for the remained of the elevated portion is being finalised, with installation to commence shortly.
